Having been born and raised in rural areas, I’m passionate about the development of the countryside. Separate development and the Bantustan policy of the past ensured that there was little development in these areas that were occupied by black people, and coupled with overcrowding and forced removals, created serious problems.

Happily, this is now a thing of the past, and whilst there is much to be done to bring about redress and parity, much progress has been made.

The present government has committed itself to doing much more to improve conditions for the rural poor. It is possible that support to peasant farmers could do much to enhance food security and create a stable cultural centre.
